A CATCH IN TIME: A Novella
by
Christopher Alan Broadstone!

"[Broadstone] weaves the tale's dramatic conflicts––art, history, the occult, and making a difference in a world that makes you feel worthless––with remarkable skill.  [He] brings out the tensions between people from different countries and first languages...[which] is a tribute to his precision, perfectionism & ability to create conflict that is compelling."––Matthew Sanderson (Independent Reviewer, Unrated.co.uk, RumourMachine.com)

I apologized to anyone who has been offended by the swastikas on the cover of my new novella, A CATCH IN TIME (and related graphics), but the "Very Different Nazi Horror Story" within is extremely anit-Nazi, anti-Hitler, anti-Aryan, and anti Neo National Socialism. A CATCH IN TIME is a story about achieving self-worth and higher ideals, greater understanding and tolerance, and of self-sacrifice in the face of insurmountable evil.

And as for the swastika itself, here's a very interesting BBC article about the history of the symbol before it was bastardized by the Third Reich.

Saw THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN this morning!

I had no genuine expectations and have not read the best-selling novel by PAULA HAWKINS, but I have to say I really, really, really liked the movie!

The critics seem to be split on the film, and some have commented that the characters are "downers" to the point of not caring about them. I highly disagree. They are not "downers" at all, but are very realistic, depressed, and conflicted personalities on the edge.

EMILY BLUNT is outstanding as "The Girl" who rides the train everyday, always watching two very specific houses and the two couples who live in them. From these elements the entire story explodes outward, becoming progressively more complex. BLUNT as Rachel, is a doomed alcoholic who has lost her job, her husband, her life, and is on the verge of losing her mind. From her seat on the train one day, she witnesses an event at one of the houses that infuriates her to the point of intolerance and breakdown. The next day the woman she saw––who outraged her so deeply––goes missing. The disappearance scoops the headlines, the detectives are unleashed, and Rachel becomes one of several suspects.

If you are looking for a dark, relationship-based thriller with characters that aren't what they appear to be––and this includes BLUNT's booze-tormented Rachel––then see THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN. As well, all of the cast performances by REBECCA FERGUSON, HALEY BENNETT, JUSTIN THEROUX, LUKE EVANS, and EDGAR RAMIREZ are excellent.

Not a new Food Frenzy post, but nonetheless a great lunch at THE HABIT: BURGER GRILL up in Alhambra. It was a much-needed private, mini-celebration for crossing another milestone in misery this year.

If you haven't tried a HABIT burger, find one and give it a go. I'll be sad to soon leave these delicious, char-grilled critters behind.

Two old guys meet again!

The excellent actor TONY SIMMONS and yours truly, standing with Tony's infamous dressing room front door from the HUMAN NO MORE film shoot. It was unearthed from Tony's storage closet here in L.A. this last Tuesday (10.4.16), thanks to me needing to reclaim a few items I had stored there. The dressing room door remains the personal property of Tony Simmons.

We had a great time seeing each other and then had a delicious Thai lunch (Tony's treat––actors always make more money than their directors). Soon I'll be much nearer to his current residence in New Orleans. Just might be another film project in the offing.
