DANIEL LICHT Music Composer for DEXTER
:'( I am so deeply saddened to have just receive the news that my friend and great film music composer DANIEL LICHT died this August 2nd, of sarcoma (cancer). A memorial was held on August 18th. He was only 60.
-
I met Dan in Hollywood through mutual friends, Producer/SFX Producer RODNEY MONTAGUE and Producer/Exec. Producer CHRISTOPHER WEBSTER. Dan, Rodney, and I used to hang out together at another friend's weekly party and a small group of us would go out on other occasions to the infamous Jumbo's Clown Room, The Dresden, and other Hollywood hot spots. It was always such a great time; Dan was a very funny and very nice guy.
-
I've been a longtime fanatic/fan of film scores and I was always so excited to know a "real" movie music composer. I loved to talk to Dan about it, and on one visit to his home in the Hollywood Hills he showed me his studio and then took me out to his garage as we discussed score music. He then showed me his collection comprising all his own scores, the classic stuff he'd written that had been released, and even gave me some CDs of his, from films such as CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT, THINNER, and, CHILDREN OF THE CORN II. I have several more in my collection. And, of course, I have his music from the series DEXTER. Sadly, I was never able to have him autograph that one.
-
Dan was also a guest at the L.A. premiere screening of my film SCREAM FOR ME and later on MY SKIN! Speaking of the latter...
-
It was Dan who introduced me to his assistant BRIAN SUSSMAN, who was an outstanding pop-song writer and an up-and-coming film music composer. It was also Dan who got Brian to write and record the music for MY SKIN! A year or so later, Brian also wrote and recorded the amazing music for my third film HUMAN NO MORE.
-
I haven't talked to Dan in several years, due to both of us being busy with this or that, and then me moving back to Dallas. But he was always on my Facebook, and I've thought of him and his music often. I was so proud to have known Dan (I have name-dropped him more than once), and so happy to have his work in my collection of CDs and on my iPod for quick access.
-
Farewell Dan, you were a great talent and a great person who directly influenced my own art through Brian Sussman, who in turn added a depth and soul to my films that otherwise simply would not be there. Thank you Dan, for being a good friend and supporter. And a friend to art and music. You will be terribly missed. I hope you are well and lost in the bliss of music, wherever you are. My heart goes out to Dan's wife HILARY and his son KIAN. :)

Enjoy the video in this article, of DAN LICHT
performing some of his music from DEXTER

THE TIME IS UPON US! Woohoo! :D

"When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood..."––Revelation 6:12

Hope all will enjoy the end of the world tomorrow, August 21st. Or at least the solar eclipse, which (if the world doesn't end), the US won't see again until 2023, according to NASA. Check out the map to see what time and what percentage of "the end" you'll see. :)

WHILE I'M WAITING...

While I'm waiting on that global killing asteroid to hit––to kill us all so that some higher power can sort out The Human chaos––I decided to seek out some sanity in music. So I took a drive and I put this up on my iPod––seemed like a world in another time for sure (although the 70s were also a time of chaos, and we should have learned plenty of lessons).  Yet the words and melodies spoke to me about how things really should be. Full of great art and music. Everything should be. Really, truly should be full of great art and music. Anyway...remember, like the song says: "We've all got time enough to cry."

Enjoy Chicago - (1973) "Saturday in the Park"
& "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?":

LYRICS––"Saturday In The Park"

Saturday in the park,
I think it was the Fourth of July
Saturday in the park,
I think it was the Fourth of July

People dancing, people laughing
A man selling ice cream
Singing Italian songs
Everybody is another
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For Saturday

Another day in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July
Another day in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July

People talking, really smiling
A man playing guitar
And singing for us all
Will you help him change the world
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For today

Slow motion riders fly the colors of the day
A bronze man still can tell stories his own way
Listen children all is not lost, all is not lost, oh no, no

Funny days in the park
Every day's the Fourth of July
Funny days in the park
Every day's the Fourth of July

People reaching, people touching
A real celebration
Waiting for us all
If we want it, really want it
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For the day, yeah yeah

LYRICS–– "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?"
As I was walking down the street one day
A man came up to me and asked me what the time was that was on my watch, yeah
And I said

Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can't imagine why
We've all got time enough to cry

And I was walking down the street one day
A pretty lady looked at me and said her diamond watch had stopped cold dead
And I said

Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can't imagine why
We've all got time enough to cry

And I was walking down the street one day
Being pushed and shoved by people trying to beat the clock, oh, no I just don't know
I don't know
And I said, yes I said

People runnin' everywhere
Don't know where to go
Don't know where I am
Can't see past the next step
Don't have time to think past the last mile
Have no time to look around
Just run around, run around and think why

Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can't imagine why
We've all got time enough to cry

It is so very disheartening and a tremendous loss. :'(

Read about this terrible loss here:

What disturbs me most about all these new bullshit political posts is how little people really know about history. How they cherry pick their bits and pieces of it to suit their blind and petty, ignorant and naive agendas. The misuse and abuse of history is shocking. And it shows very clearly how the current rants and rages of ass-clowns (right and left) is a perfect example of history repeating itself. Repeated by morons who think they know something about history––emotional reactionaries who have learned nothing about the true horrors in history other than through memes and out-of-context blurbs. All of this is the state of the human race forever, it seems. Simply put, most cannot think rationally, logically, with common sense––and worst of all––add up all the toxic garbage, purge it, and think for themselves. Damnit!!!! Where is that global killing asteroid and resulting nuclear winter where only the cockroaches will survive?! Where is it?!!! Have a nice day. :)

UPDATE––A CATCH IN TIME: A SHORT FILM!

The shoot went very well this last weekend. Some intense work, but thanks to the entire WILDRIDGE family all challenges were met and conquered with excellence. Everyone was a real filmmaking trooper in this very insane event. But as I told them, this is the kind of thing that happens when you let someone like me into your life. :) A very big hug and heartfelt thanks from me to RICK, JULIE, CHRISTIAN, MASON, ALYSSA, and even SNICKERS the cat (who insisted on being everywhere. :)

HOLY WOW, BATMAN!!!
It's DALLAS VINTAGE SHOP Costume Clothiers

Mom chauffeured me over to Plano yesterday to pick up some highfalutin Ben Nye Stage Blood for my CITv shoot next weekend, and what we walked into at DALLAS VINTAGE SHOP was a world of heavenly madness and inspiration! If you are in Dallas––love theater and film or cosplay––you must visit DALLAS VINTAGE SHOP and get lost in its claustrophobic aisles of...well...everything and anything! It rivals, if not surpasses, anything I've seen in Hollywood (minus the attitude).
