For those of you who have read and enjoyed my short story SMILEYS' GRAVE, here are some pictures I took of Mills Cemetery in a slideshow presentation (set to the song BURY MY LOVELY by October Project). The cemetery is an eerie graveyard very near to the house where I grew up, and which is the resting place of the Smiley family who all died on May 9th, 1927. The cemetery and the Smiley grave are a place of haunted legend and the inspiration behind my short story and my screenplay COLOR OF FLAME, adapted from the short story.

A MUST WATCH streaming on Netflix!

If nothing will cure you of wanting to make a movie, due to sheer insanity, exponential egos, mercurial maniacs, money grubbing back stabbers –– and the list goes on –– this excellent documentary about the making of one of the worst films to come out of Hollywood will. LOST SOUL: THE DOOMED JOURNEY OF RICHARD STANLEY'S ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU is something to see. I said it was an excellent documentary, but I said that not so much because the doc itself (technically, etc.) was brilliant, but the story it tells is outstanding and horrifying. It's a train wreck in slow motion that you can't take your eyes off of. If you love film, or have made a few small ones, as I have, you'll love this one. Although you might run away screaming into the mountains in the end –– as the original director of...never mind. Give it a watch.

Wow! Another unparalelled documentary from the BBC! Newly streaming on Netflix, HUMAN PLANET is an 8 episode journey to far reaching and extreme environments where human beings live, and even thrive, in the most hostile conditions. The cinematography is unbelievable at times. Enjoy the trailer in HD. And yes, that one tribesman standing outside his rainforest treehouse is completely naked (get ready for some of that), and no, those other tribesmen elsewhere did not include Marylin Manson (but I think they might have influenced some of his looks). devil emoticon This is a MUST WATCH series!

"This is some book. Broken up into three parts, short fiction, screenplays, and then song lyrics and poetry. And it is a tour de force.  The imagery Mr. Broadstone writes with is beautiful and really pulls you in." –– Sheri Williams, Author

I got in a Buddy Rich (one of my big drumming influences) mood the other day and had to dig out the The Lost "West Side Story" Tapes on DVD.  The video here isn't HD, but the audio is great and one of Buddy's best performances with his band (which could blow off doors).  In this medley from "West Side Story" Buddy (at 67 years old) plays two magnificent solos, the first at about 2:50 (on the clock) and the second at 8:50. The latter solo is the best of the two, so take a listen to that if you don't have time to listen to the entire tune.  Enjoy!

Paraphrased from the DVD liner notes written by Cathy Rich –– Formerly The Lost "West Side Story" Tapes, this magnificent performance from 1985 is the last of Buddy's recorded and filmed works.  This is an Emmy nominated concert once feared lost in a fire, that has been fully restored with a state-of-the-art audio mix.

Buddy's signature piece of music that closed almost every concert on the road, was his "West Side Story" medley.  Always ending with a blazing drum solo finale.  The solo captured on this night was exceptional.  Once again, Buddy at 67 years old shows us all why he is still the benchmark for all to be measured by.

Via Paul D. Marks, an excellent, new high-resolution photo of the dwarf planet Pluto from NASA.

And to think I've had Pluto up in the sky above my video editing/writing station since I cut my first film.  I always knew he was out there.

Hmmmm...this could be interesting. :D

I've always had an obsession with Antarctica.  How stark and beautiful it is, but also how the reality of its amazing landscape and locality is so brutal and deadly.  This 2014 documentary, ANTARCTICA: A YEAR ON ICE, is a unique film in that it focuses on the tradesmen –– the real people ––  that work and live there.  Its not about the scientists, but about those who keep the bases open and operating year round.  Well worth a watch.  Newly streaming on Netflix. 3:)  Checkout the trailer and be sure to view it in HD.
Alas, exactly what I do every time I try to write my next best story.
