BLACK HAIR MAN––URBAN THRIFT (Garland, TX)

I have been frequenting URBAN THRIFT, which is a wonderful thrift shop very nearby, and progressively finding things for the new HUMAN NO MORE film set. Last Tuesday night I was in for their weekly HAPPY HOUR (Everything 50% Off 7pm-8pm) and bought 12 glasses, plus stuff. One glass that the girl had wrapped up with newspaper didn't make its way into the bags. I went back first thing the following morning in hopes of convincing them a glass (.25¢––that's a lot on this film's budget––lol) had been left out. But they had the glass waiting for me with this note:

NAME: Black hair man
IMPORTANT INFO: I forgot to put this in a man's bag last night during happy hour. Doubt he'll notice...

Well...I did notice and thanks to that very nice young girl––who, sadly, would have called me the "black hair guy" if I wasn't so old. Uhgggg...

***Even so, you may all now refer to "me" as: BLACK HAIR MAN! Thank you very much.

 TERRELL STATE (MENTAL) HOSPITAL––TEXAS
(Photo Series #2)

Enjoy my 2nd set in an ongoing photo series of the famous Texas mental hospital at Terrell, TX.

Just for bearings...the first picture is the original TERRELL STATE HOSPITAL, which is no longer standing. The second (overhead) online photo of the TERRELL STATE HOSPITAL campus was found online, and meant to give some reference.

Once again, I see tremendous history here, even though the original 1885 hospital was lost. If only these structures and walls could talk. Even so, these pictures are at least worth 1000 words apiece, right? So join me on my afternoon trip into a daylight nightmare, that only touches on the darkness and chaos, struggle and hopelessness, and morbid isolation which confounded the minds that inhabited these walls.

TERRELL STATE HOSPITAL. Terrell State Hospital was opened as a regional psychiatric hospital in July 1885. During the late nineteenth century, due to overcrowding in the state's only psychiatric treatment facility, located at Austin, eligible patients throughout Texas were often confined to county jails and poorhouses, both places incapable of treating the mentally ill. Really on the door in this building at the TERRELL STATE (MENTAL) HOSPITAL:
"FYI You never know when your being watched!!"

Surely a warning to trespassers like me. lo
And apparently from a poor speller like me too––"your being watched"?
Should be "you're being watched".
