Saw THE NEON DEMON this morning.

Hmmmm...that was far less a movie than an overly glorified comment on the superficial, model-hate-model, I'll-do-anything-to-be-more-beautiful world of the L.A. supermodel scene. And in spite of a healthy dose of lesbian necrophilia, cold-hearted murder, surreal cannibalism, eyeball vomiting and harakiri, you'd think the film would be a helluva lot more exciting than it is. Of course, most of that happened in the last fifteen minutes of the movie. lol

I do have to say that ELLE FANNING's 18 year old body was in outstanding shape, which did help the film along through the first hour and half of dead slow in the filmic water.

All in all, if you want to watch a far superior film by writer/director NICOLAS WINDING REFN, watch DRIVE. This guy must really have some financial backers that love him in a very personal way, to give him all the money it took to make THE NEON DEMON. I wish these money clowns would read my screenplays––I actually make a solid attempt to tell a good story, in spite of any arty un-commercialism that might seep in.

THE SHALLOWS!––Hahahahaha, yes! That was a good one!

Intense just about from word go. The movie was taut, to the point, and relentless at times––and never dumb. Superior interpolation of a GoPro camera into the story, as well as modern smartphone video and messaging. Really liked the film. Highly recommended (but only if you think you might like a hot chick and a killer shark getting personal).

My only complaint is that they didn't exploit BLAKE LIVELY's super hot bikini body enough. Difficult to witness such a crime.  Of course, with her in the film I was already distracted enough from the shark. lol

Finally watched DEADPOOL (starring RYAN REYNOLDS) last night, having few expectations. And I have to say I really liked it

Totally over-the-top and irreverent in about every way, including very adult sex & toilet humor, violence, action, and well...just plain hilarious at times. I really enjoyed how the film also constantly poked fun at itself.

DEADPOOL is a very stylized and different superhero film. And one to check out. Highly recommended (but not for kids).

ALL NEW from Feast Frenzy @ The Horror Food Network!

Well it's happened! 110 degrees on my thermometers––what a hell (literally) of a day.  Shwoo!  Time for more cool summer food.   EVERYTHING SALAD + CAB DRESSING: in a large mixing bowl cut fresh spinach leaves, spring greens, collard green leaf, and kale.  Next, add chopped broccoli, celery, and cucumber (spice with garlic powder & oregano); next add chopped tomato, red bell pepper, and sliced radish (spice with basil &50/50 salt); then add chopped white onion and sliced baby Portobello mushrooms (spice with paprika and freshly ground black pepper).  Now douse with 100% canola oil (w/omega-3,6,9) and mix the oil into the salad completely.  CAB DRESSING time: in a small container start with a base of Kraft Fat-Free Italian Dressing, then (to your taste) add balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and Frank's Red Hot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce.  Stir, pour over salad, and mix with all the greens and veggies completely.

At last, spoon onto a dinner plate and add chopped oven baked chicken, sprinkle with sliced black olives and shredded Parmesan, then drizzle the top with ground red pepper.  Absolutely refreshing, healthy, and delicious while suffering through Dante's Inferno.
ANTHROPOID (August 2016)!
Now this one is playing right up to my Nazi fetish. From IMDB: Based on the extraordinary true story of Operation Anthropoid, the WWII mission to assassinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich, the main architect behind the Final Solution and the Reich's third in command after Hitler and Himmler.

I will be there for this, with bells on (I'll leave my little Swastika flags and jackboots at home, however).  I'm a big WWII buff for a long time now––just wait for my new story arriving soon, A CATCH IN TIME.

Starring the always great CILLIAN MURPHY, check out the intense trailer;
at the very least, the film will look spectacular, if nothing else.

 IN THEATERS THIS FRIDAY (6/24)!

THE NEON DEMON, directed by arty, slow-burn, ultra-violent director NICOLAS WINDING REFN (DRIVE, ONLY GOD FORGIVES) and starring ELLE FANNING (looking very sexy hot, just check out those legs) and KEANU REEVES (of all actors to be in this film, hmmmm...).

I've heard the critics already saying the movie is more style than substance...but maybe that in itself is a stylistic choice. I guess we'll find out the hard way. But in the meantime, enjoy this excellent trailer for THE NEON DEMON:

OK...RON HOWARD––who is always hit or miss with me as what he's touted to be: A World Class, Brilliant Director!––has made DAN BROWN's THE DA VINCI CODE (a hit with me), and then ANGELS & DEMONS (big miss with me––mediocre dialogue, over-the-top acting & simply unbelievable portrayal of normal people barely effected by torture that would kill a rhinoceros), and now we have the third DAN BROWN installment coming this October 14, 2016 (UK & Ireland) and October 28, 2016 (USA): INFERNO. *sigh* Let's see if RON HOWARD can remember what he did best in THE DA VINCI CODE. I worry...uhggggg...

 AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!!!!
THE ALIENS ARE FINALLY HERE!!!!!

(Be still, my end-of-the-world fetish heart.)

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE (Friday, 24th)! Woohooooooo!
Let's blow up everything!!!!!!

ALL NEW from Feast Frenzy @ The Horror Food Network!

WOW! It hit 107 degrees today according to my thermometers––Uhgggggg...too hot for hot food. Deli-time on the menu, which meant: two slices of Nature's Harvest 40-calorie Multigrain bread, smear with jalapeno mustard, lay down a bed of fresh spinach & spring greens, two slices of Orange Rind Muenster cheese, four slices of fresh hothouse tomatoes (spice with 50/50 salt & ground black pepper), add four slices of fresh cucumber (spice with garlic, oregano & basil), then two thin slices of oven roasted turkey & two slices of Black Forrest ham, top with rings of white onion, add second slice of bread and toothpick with pepperoncinis. On the side: 50% less sodium Fritos and an ice-cold Claussen kosher dill pickle. Shwoo! Yummy and cooling!
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY To All The Great Dad's Out There and to all those––past and present––that have ever hugged us and lent a helping hand to get over life's seemingly impossible hurdles. Kick back and enjoy this day wherever you are.

And as this card graphic implies, we all know at times we can seem like The Children Of The Damned. :D

OMG...  :(  It's now been just over a year––or so Facebook is reminding me today with a "Post Your Memory"–– since I began work developing my short story/novella? A CATCH IN TIME. But I've suffered many delays due to personal idiocy, being my own worst enemy, and sometimes just plain old life getting in the way––not to mention some filmmaking

Well, aCIT should finally be finished and available on Amazon in about two months. I'll keep you posted.

The now infamous FB memory post...

"I've been fighting this story for months now. And I don't know why. But I actually do know why. Because I'm still learning the character. If I don't know here. I mean really live inside her skin, I can't write her. I've just been in her skin, and felt her fear, and her pain, and horror. I'm finally ready to write. What will happen here will be intense."
Cool beans! Just picked up Umberto Eco's THE NAME OF THE ROSE for Kindle, on sale from $7.99 and going for $2.99. Can't beat that!  Eco is a master and a genius that seems to know everything about everything.

THE NAME OF THE ROSE on sale here!
https://www.amazon.com/Name-Rose-Umberto-Eco-ebook/dp/B003WUYPTC?ie=UTF8&ref_=asap_bc

One of my greatest influences in writing the history section for my novel PUZZLEMAN was Eco's FOUCAULT'S PENDULUM. Unbelievable, complex work of history written as fiction. His THE ISLAND OF THE DAY BEFORE is another deep and complex mind blower. Great stuff! Although I'll admit, not for everyone. You better be ready to use your brain. lol

ALL NEW from Feast Frenzy @ The Horror Food Network!

Turning leftovers into an amazing dish can equal HEARTY TURKEY VEGETABLE SOUP!  So...I had leftover Campbell's Chicken & Rice Soup that I had modified with a can of organic black beans (all spiced with garlic, oregano, basil, and paprika); and I had leftover skillet-browned, 93% fat-free ground turkey with thickly sliced red & green bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, and white onions (all spiced with Tabasco Chipotle Sauce, garlic, oregano, basil, paprika, and Texas Gunpowder).  I simply mixed all together in a large bowl, added freshly sliced baby Portobello mushrooms, and popped into the microwave for 5 minutes.  Once piping hot, I served the soup into a dinner bowl and topped with Parmesan cheese and a light dusting of ground red pepper.  On the side: fresh hot house tomatoes (spiced with 50/50 salt, ground black pepper, and basil), green onions, a large radish and a bit of 50/50 salt.  Superb!  Loved it!
Absolutely loving my new, leather SNUGG iPod case!

Welcome to rock'n'roll Friday, and welcome to Hollywood!  One of my fav dead bands––singer killed in a car crash after a gig. "We're in the band, all we want is a one night stand." Well, those were the days. Although I don't think I ever managed more than one. Shameful. lol

Enjoy the tune:

ALL NEW from Feast Frenzy @ The Horror Food Network!

TANGY-SPICY SHRIMP & ONION RINGS!  First peel raw, medium shrimp and marinate in Frank's Red Hot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce for one hour in the fridge.  When almost ready, start grilling onion rings on the NuWave Oven for 3 minutes, then add the shrimp to the grill, spice with garlic powder and oregano, and cook shrimp & onion rings for 7 minutes.  Place a giant, fresh collard green leaf on a plate, top with the shrimp and slices of hot house tomatoes (spiced with 50/50 salt & ground black pepper), add the side of onion rings (also spiced with ground black pepper), and the dipping sauces: sriracha mustard, jalapeno mustard, and ranch dressing––to cool you down.  If you need a bigger kick add a few pepperoncinis.  Last but not least, grab up that giant collard green leaf, roll it, and dip in the sauces––to get your veggie vitamins for the day.  Fiery, tangy, and delicious!

All I can say is––WOW! That chick can sing!

I've never known a lot about JANIS JOPLIN, so I was intrigued to watch the 2015 documentary JANIS: LITTLE GIRL BLUE (Currently Streaming On Netflix). I was blown away, not only by Joplin's singing, but by the documentary itself, which really showed her energy, her darkness, her fears, her pain, and her vulnerability––everything she unleashed in her music. And all of which ultimately helped to push her over the edge into self-destruction. I had a tear in my eye and lump in my throat by the end of this film. Very inspiring, although bittersweet. Check this one out if you love music and you love excellent documentaries.
